Position Overview

Apollo’s Hybrid Equity team employs a flexible investment approach centered around three primary strategies: i) Capital Solutions (e.g., debt or preferred equity + warrants or convertible securities), ii) Structured Equity (e.g., structured JVs, structured minority equity, and structured control equity), and iii) Stressed/Distressed (typically only during periods of significant market dislocation). Apollo’s Hybrid ecosystem formally integrates Apollo’s market leading equity and credit franchises to capitalize on market challenges and misunderstood risk/reward situations to provide debt and equity solutions globally across asset classes, industries, and geographies. The Hybrid Equity Principal will work on all stages of the sourcing, investment, and portfolio monitoring processes.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Lead the Deal Process: Spearhead all aspects of deal process from thesis definition to due diligence, relationship development, analysis, memo creation, negotiations, financing, portfolio company management / value creation, and exit

  • Manage Due Diligence: Manage due diligence process and relationships with third-party advisors, including all financial, business, legal and technical due diligence activities

  • Judgement & Structuring: Evaluate key deal merits and risks and develop investment structures across multiple transaction types, including LBOs, carve-outs, joint ventures, preferred equity, and debt financings

  • Review and Negotiate Documentation: Handle transaction-related legal documentation, including drafting of initial term sheets and reviewing long-form documents

  • Lead Financing Efforts: Lead debt financing and equity syndication efforts on live transactions, including building relationships with capital providers and negotiating credit agreements

  • Drive Value Creation: Work closely with portfolio companies after investment, driving value creation initiatives including add-on acquisitions and optimizing exit opportunities; serve on boards as appropriate

  • Monitor Market Dislocation: During periods of significant market dislocation, identify and monitor stressed/distressed secondary situations across multiple industries and develop target prices for secondary debt securities

  • Team Development: Day to day active management and mentorship of Associates

Qualifications & Experience

  • 7+ years of total relevant work experience, with at least 4 years of prior private equity / hybrid / special situations investment experience and 2-3 years of prior investment banking experience

  • Exceptional analytical and critical thinking skills with strong attention to detail

  • Understanding of merits and considerations of various investment structures and credit provisions

  • Robust interpersonal skills to support communication with external counterparties inclusive of management teams and third-party advisors and internal, cross-platform stakeholders

  • Familiarity with corporate governance issues and ability to develop into taking portfolio company board seats, as appropriate

  • Excels in a rigorious, fast-paced environment and is a consummate team player; adept at managing competiting priorities across multiple projects, workstreams and transactions

  • Strong track record of mentorship and management of junior team members

  • Bachelor’s degree with a strong record of academic achievement

The base salary range for this position is listed above. This position is also eligible for a discretionary annual bonus based on personal, team, and Firm performance. Compensation ranges are based on several factors including job function, level, and geographic location. Final offer amounts are determined by multiple factors including candidate experience and expertise, and may vary from the amounts listed here.
